  • What is ELSA?

    ELSA is an international, independent, non-political and non-profit organization that brings together law students and young lawyers interested in academic and personal development. The organization provides a basis for developing student skills, gaining new knowledge and communicating with law students and lawyers from all over Europe. Today it is one of the largest independent student organizations, which is represented in 432 law faculties, 43 European countries and about 60,000 students and young lawyers as members.

  • What is the purpose, aims and vision of ELSA?

    The main purpose of our Association is to contribute to legal education, to foster mutual understanding and to promote social responsibility of law students and young lawyers.

    Aims: To develop professional and student relations of an international nature in the field of Law, to prepare members for professional life in an international environment, to contribute to the exchange of scholarly experience and to stimulate mutual understanding and friendship on the principle of equality of all its members.

    Our vision is very important for the activity of our Association, it sounds like: A just world in which there is respect for human dignity and cultural diversity.

  • How can I become a member of ELSA Ukraine?

    In order to become a member of ELSA Ukraine, you need to apply to the Secretary General of ELSA Ukraine that exists in your city (or any other ELSA Ukraine Local Group), fill out the membership form and pay the membership fee.

  • What are the requirements to become a member of ELSA Ukraine?

    Only law students and young lawyers can become members of ELSA Ukraine.

    Law students are students who study “Law", "International Law", and other legal specialties provided by the national system of education.

    A young lawyer is considered to be a person within 5 years from the moment of receiving a diploma of legal education.

  • Can I become a member of ELSA Ukraine if there’s no Local Group in my city?

    Yes. You just need to contact the Secretary General of that Local Group of which you want to become a member.

    However, membership in several Local Groups at the same time is not allowed.

  • Can I attend ELSA events if I am not a member of the organization?

    Students and young lawyers who are not members of ELSA Ukraine have the right to participate in all events held by ELSA, unless otherwise provided by the rules of participation in the event.

  • What is ELSA Traineeships?

    ELSA Traineeships - is one of the most important projects of ELSA, which belongs to the Professional Development Area. This event provides law students and young lawyers with a broad catalogue of international traineeships to apply for. The traineeships are various, they last between 2 weeks and 2 years, cover different legal areas and require different qualifications.

  • How can I become a participant of ELSA Traineeships?

    A student who wants to participate in ELSA Traineeships must complete an application form and pay a fee. If you have any additional questions about the traineeship, please contact the Local or National Vice President in charge of Professional Development.

  • When was ELSA founded? ELSA Ukraine?

    ELSA was founded on May 4th, 1981 in Vienna, Austria.

    Five students coming from Austria, Hungary, Poland and West Germany saw the need to promote international cooperation and mutual understanding among law students on both West and East Europe.

    ELSA Ukraine originated in 1994.

  • What is the organizational structure of ELSA Ukraine?

    The National Board is the supreme executive body of ELSA Ukraine. It represents the Association and is responsible for its everyday running and management. The National Board comprises eight officers. The members of the National Board are elected by the supreme decision-making body of the Association, namely the National Council Meeting ELSA Ukraine.

    The National Board is elected by the National Council Meeting ELSA Ukraine in the following composition:

    Vice President in charge of Marketing

    Vice President in charge of Academic Activities

  • How to become a member of the Board / How to become a part of the ELSA team?

    In order to become a member of the Board, you need to be a member of ELSA Ukraine and participate in the elections.

    The Annual term of the Board lasts one year that starts on August 1st and ends on July 31st of the next year.

    Elections of members of the Board are held during the authorized National/Local Council Meeting (updated information about elections can always be found on social media of our Local Groups or by contacting the Secretary General of a certain Local Group).

    You can also join the team as a Director or Assistant. To do this, you need to wait for the opening of a call for the Directors/Assistants, send the necessary documents to the Secretary General of that Local Group of which team you want to join. Assistants and Directors of the Board are appointed by the decision of members of the Board.

  • What statutory documents does ELSA Ukraine use?

    ELSA Ukraine operates in accordance with the ELSA Ukraine Statute.

    The main internal document is the Decisions Book of ELSA Ukraine, adopted by the National Council of ELSA Ukraine. The Decisions Book regulates key issues of the organization, which are not regulated by the Statute.
